A Friendly and Innovative Lodge
Consecrated in 1961, Heugh Lodge No. 7773 is the youngest Lodge in Hartlepool and has built a strong reputation for friendliness, innovation, and active participation in the life of the Masonic Hall.
The Lodge is proud of its welcoming atmosphere, where members gather from 6:30pm to enjoy the bar, catch up on news, and strengthen friendships before the formal meeting begins.
Membership spans a wide range of professions — including former uniformed servicemen — with ages currently ranging from 28 to 90. This diversity creates a vibrant and supportive Lodge environment.
Strong Charitable Commitment
Heugh Lodge has a proud history of supporting both Masonic and local charities. The Lodge received a Platinum Award for exceeding its target contribution to the most recent five-year Durham Festival, which raised funds for national Masonic charities.
In addition, special fundraising activities throughout the year support important local causes such as the RNLI.
Popular Themed Evenings
Heugh Lodge is particularly well known across Hartlepool Freemasonry for its themed festive boards, which attract visitors from other Lodges:
- January – Burns Night: Tartan banners, piped haggis, and the traditional Address to the Haggis.
- June – Nautical Evening: Sea shanties, maritime décor, and fundraising for the RNLI.
- December – Christmas Dinner: A traditional festive celebration with ladies and widows invited, followed by carol singing.
These events combine tradition, enjoyment, and charity — making them highlights of the Masonic year.
Communication and Community
The Lodge produces a popular, fully illustrated monthly newsletter — The Bar Browser — reporting on activities within Heugh Lodge and across the Hartlepool Lodges. Archived editions provide a fascinating snapshot of Hartlepool Freemasonry since 2006.
