Founded in 1880, Stranton Lodge has been part of Hartlepool’s Masonic life for nearly a century and a half. With 146 years of proud history, the Lodge honours its traditions while actively developing fresh and innovative ideas to meet the needs of both young and mature men in today’s world.
Stranton Lodge combines stability and experience with a forward-looking outlook — ensuring Freemasonry remains relevant, engaging, and meaningful for modern life.

Stranton Lodge supports local community projects and charities through donations and practical involvement, reflecting the core Masonic principle of charity.
Preserving and Celebrating Our History
One of the Lodge’s distinctive strengths is its commitment to preserving its heritage.
Members are actively researching and documenting the genealogy and history of the Lodge, including:
- Former members’ Masonic journeys
- Family histories
- Military service records
- Notable life achievements
This work includes the creation of recorded materials and short lectures exploring the lives and stories of past Brethren. One member has already produced a commemorative CD to raise charitable funds within the Lodge.
Any new or existing member with an interest in genealogy, history, or archival research would be warmly welcomed to contribute to this important and fascinating aspect of Lodge life.
Sharing Skills and Interests
Stranton Lodge encourages members to share their interests and skills — particularly in areas such as computing, research, and presentation — helping to build camaraderie and mutual support within the Lodge.
